Getting started

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. They scan your QR poster and the card opens in their phone's browser. They sign in with their email and a six-digit code (there's no password) and can add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet if they like.

How do I set up?

Sign in at app.tallyr.com.au with your email and a code, then follow the four-step setup: your business, your first location, your card and where it runs. It saves as you go. The setup guide walks through every screen.

Do I need new hardware?

No. The counter runs on any phone or tablet your team already uses, and the poster prints on any printer.

Do I need to touch my POS?

No. Tallyr runs beside your till, so there's nothing to integrate.

Does Tallyr work outside Australia?

Tallyr is built for Australian businesses: prices are in Australian dollars and data is hosted in Australia.

Cards and rewards

What can earn a stamp?

Whatever you choose: a visit, a coffee, a service, a spend. You write the line that tells customers, and staff can add up to 10 stamps at once.

How many stamps can a card have?

Anywhere from 1 to 30 stamps for the reward. Most businesses pick 6 to 10.

Can I run more than one card?

Yes, as many as you need: a coffee card and a lunch card, a cut card and a colour card. Each has its own goal and reward, and can run at all your locations or only some.

Can I change my reward later?

Yes, from the app. Cards your customers already hold keep the goal and reward they started with, so nobody's progress changes under them; new cards get the new terms.

What happens when a card is full?

The reward is ready on the customer's card and pass. At the counter, staff scan the reward's code and hand it over, and the card starts again from zero. A reward can wait until the customer is next in.

Can customers hold cards from several businesses?

Yes. One Tallyr account holds every card they collect.

Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

Do Wallet passes cost extra?

No. Every plan, Free included, lets customers add your card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Does the pass update itself?

Yes. A new stamp, a reward ready or a reward redeemed changes the pass on its own, and a new stamp or a ready reward shows up on the lock screen.

Can staff scan the pass?

Yes. The pass carries the customer's code, so it scans at the counter like the app does.

What if a customer doesn't use a wallet?

The card works in their phone's browser too, with the same stamps and rewards. Messages, though, travel on the Wallet pass.

At the counter

How do staff stamp a card?

The customer opens My code and staff scan it, check the name on screen, choose how many stamps and tap Add. That's it.

What if the camera won't scan?

Staff switch to Enter code and type the six characters shown under the customer's QR.

What if the customer's phone is flat?

Staff switch to Name and type at least three letters of the customer's name to find them among your customers, then stamp as usual. Searches are by name only, never email or phone.

Can a customer cheat with a screenshot?

No. A customer's code changes about every minute, so a screenshot is useless soon after, and staff check the name on screen before stamping.

What if a staff member scans twice?

Tallyr recognises the repeat and won't stamp twice.

Can customers ask for a stamp themselves?

Yes. When a customer scans your QR poster, with their phone's camera or the Tallyr app, a stamp request goes to your counter by itself. Staff approve it, which opens the usual stamp sheet, or decline it. Nothing is stamped automatically. It works on every plan, Free included.

What stops someone asking for stamps they didn't earn?

Your staff confirm every request, and see the customer's name, picture and a three-digit number the customer also sees. A request lasts 5 minutes. Each customer can make at most 6 requests at one location and 30 in total in any 24 hours, must wait 2 minutes to ask again after a decline, and a location holds at most 50 open requests at once. A request can't hand over a reward: that still takes the customer's QR.

Do we need a tablet or a barcode scanner?

No. Staff see requests on the Scan screen of any phone. If you have a tablet or computer by the register, the till screen (app.tallyr.com.au/till, in a browser window at least 768 px wide) shows the scanner and the request list side by side, with a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner or just the camera. How the till works.

Do I need to reprint my posters?

No. Posters already up keep working: their QR doesn't change, and a scan of any poster sends a stamp request. Posters you print now say “Scan for your stamp”.

We forgot to stamp someone. Can I fix it?

Yes, on Tallyr Pro. Open the customer, choose the card and add 1 to 10 stamps with a reason. Every hand-added stamp is recorded with who added it and why.

Messages

What messages can Tallyr send?

With the Wallet nudges add-on: automatic reminders (a reward is close, a reward is ready, a regular has gone quiet), your own messages, a birthday wish on the customer's birthday, and a Google review request after a few visits.

Who receives my messages?

Customers who have your card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and haven't switched your business off. Your own messages go to everyone, to your regulars (in on 3 or more days in the last 60) or to lapsed customers (in on 2 or more days, but not for 3 weeks).

How often can I message customers?

You can send one message of your own a week. And no customer hears from your business more than once a week, reminders included, so nobody is spammed. Messages go out between 10 am and 8 pm, your time.

How do birthday messages work?

Customers can add their birthday (the day and month, never the year), and your card invites them to. You write the message once; it arrives on the day, and you honour the treat in person. You never see the date.

How do Google review requests work?

Paste the review link from your Google Business Profile and choose after which visit to ask (2nd to 10th, 3rd by default). Tallyr sends one request the day after that visit. It never comes with an offer, because Google doesn't allow rewards for reviews.

Can customers stop my messages?

Yes, any time, and without signing in: they can turn off the card's notifications in their wallet, remove the card, or email us, and we stop them within five working days. They can also switch your business off in the app's notification settings. Their card keeps working either way.

Pricing and billing

What does Tallyr cost?

Free is $0 for one business, one location and up to 3 staff. Tallyr Pro is $25 AUD a month for two businesses and two locations, unlimited staff and Advanced analytics; each extra business is $10 and each extra location $5 a month. Messages are the Wallet nudges add-on, $10 a month on either plan.

Do I need a card to start?

No. You only add one when you upgrade to Tallyr Pro or add an add-on.

Is there a free trial?

There's no trial because there's no clock: Free is a permanent plan. Upgrade when you need more.

What if I go over 1,000 active customers on Free?

Nothing stops. Customers still join and stamp; we let you know and suggest Tallyr Pro.

Is there a contract?

No. Month to month, cancel any time. Cancelling Pro takes you back to Free at the end of the month.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major cards, billed through Stripe.

Team and locations

Can all my staff stamp?

Yes. Three staff on Free, unlimited on Tallyr Pro, and never a per-seat fee.

How do I add staff?

Invite them by email from the app and choose the venues they work at. They sign in with a code from their inbox.

I have more than one location.

Free covers one location. Tallyr Pro covers two businesses and two locations; beyond that each extra location is $5 a month and each extra business $10.

Can I close a location for a while?

Yes. Pause it from Locations and reopen it later. Nothing is lost.

Privacy and data

Who owns my customer data?

You do. We host it to run the service, never sell it and never show ads against it. On Tallyr Pro you can download your customer list as a CSV whenever you like.

What can I see about my customers?

Their display name, their cards, stamps and visits with your business. Never their email address, phone number or birthday, and never their activity at other businesses.

Where is the data stored?

In Australia, handled under the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Do you show ads to my customers?

Never. That's the point.

Can customers delete their account?

Yes, from the app, at any time. Their history is erased rather than kept. See our Privacy Policy.
